The Gauja is a right tributary of the Nemunas River, originating in Belarus, in the Grodno region. It flows through the territory of Lithuania for about thirty kilometres, the most suitable stretch for water tourism is from Daubutiškės to the village of Girdžiūnai. It is a very interesting and beautiful river from the point of view of navigation: it is fast-flowing, in some places very meandering, and the most attractive feature is the wild nature, untouched by civilisation. Along this route, you will admire the unique landscapes of the Dieveniškės Historical Regional Park, have the opportunity to visit cultural and archaeological heritage monuments, see mighty oaks, millennia-old burial mounds and mythological stones. There are campsites, gazebos with outdoor furniture and fireplaces throughout the park. Swimming and fishing enthusiasts can try the Poškoniai pond. This river is a great summer alternative for those who want to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city.
